Big Bore Build Success

We’ve all heard the phrase “Go big or go home.” And when it comes to BIG Bore builds, that’s exactly the strategy of custom gun builder Corey James of Bayou Advanced Weapons Systems.

Corey’s big bore builds start at .416 Caliber. He does not build smaller than the .416 in any of his custom Safari-Grade Bolt Guns and personally custom loads all his clients Big Bore rifles with premium Cutting Edge Bullets (CEBs), or Woodleigh Bullets. Every detail that goes into to the design of his Big Bore builds is specifically for their intended quarry.

High-capacity Safari Bolt Guns is his specialty in design and reliability for the ultimate stalker or stopper. According to Laura James, CEO of Bayou Advanced Weapon Systems, Big Bore Bolt guns need several aspects to compete with Double Rifle Dangerous Game Weapons. These bolt guns need flawless feeding, high capacity, flawless extraction and serious knock-down power to help his customers achieve their goals.

“This marks the 8th Big Bore Build this year that sports the TRACT LPVO with great success. All clients had successful hunts and all reported kills ranging from 10 meters to 60 meters with the LPVO.  I highly recommended they keep the LPVO at 1X as the majority of kills on cape buffalo are 50-60 yards.”

Not For The Faint of Heart

The .416 to .620 caliber or safari-grade bolt Big Bores are surely not for the faint of heart. The 600 Overkill pushes 825 Grain CEBs in excess of 2,400 FPS generating north of 10,000 foot pounds of energy.  The 725 to 900 grain custom CEB Bullets are available exclusively at Bayou Advanced Weapon Systems, for the 600 Overkill.

Both the .416 Rigby and .620 Overkill on our Bolt Safari Weapons are built on the CZ550 Safari Magnum Actions, MRC PH 1999 Actions, and the Granite Mountain Actions.

Cartridges from .416 Rigby to .600 Overkill are built with the utmost respect for reliability, capacity, performance, and fast deployable weapons exceeding the capacity of most other modern Big Bores rifles. For the .600 Overkill Cartridge we are but one of only 2 suppliers in the United States that have Lathe Turned Cases for extreme high-pressure loads.

Mounting System on Big Bore Builds

For maximum ring clamping strength Corey uses the NightForce 6 screw Heavy Duty Rings on all his Safari Builds with optics. What should be a testament to the LPVO by TRACT is that he tells his clients their PH is wrong, you do not need Iron Sights and a Quick Detach Optic. He assures his clients that the TORIC 1-8×24 will not fail.  He also recommends that they buy a 2nd or another LPVO as a backup. However, in a real world hunting environment shooting Cape Buffalo, Lion or Rhino, there is ZERO time to QD detach a failed optic and use iron sights.

The TRACT is the way to go for reliability and I have never had a client have a failed Optic even many that have dropped their firearm. In fact, 2 of the last 5 clients actually broke their stocks or even a bolt handle was broken off due to a very harsh fall on rocks. After repair the TORIC LPVO still maintained zero.”

Custom Work

Our BIG BORE builds are only limited by your imagination and of course your pocketbook with premium grade AAA+ fine woods, Laminate or Composite Stocks available in almost any configuration possible.  True swap-barrels are also available in either a true floating barrel switch-barrel or multiple-lug barrel-forearm configuration.  .416, .458 Lott, 500 Jeffrey, 505 Gibbs, 500 A-Square, and 600 Overkill are his primary offerings in the Safari-Series Rifles.

TORIC LPVO Features
