Mirage caps aid reading mirage over a longer distance. Reducing the objective diameter of a scope has the same effect as changing the “F” setting on a manual camera. The result allows less light and increases the depth of field, allowing you to read mirage over a much longer distance. With your objective lens at full diameter you are reading mirage over only a few yards. The mirage may have stopped or actually be running in the opposite direction closer to the firing line. Shooters notice the lines on the target are more defined with the mirage cap in place, especially on hot afternoons with heavy mirage. The mirage caps may be a disadvantage during dark cloudy days or any other low light conditions where mirage can’t be seen or read. The article below is a great source for explaining mirage and reading mirage, you may want to pay close attention to the last paragraph of the article. Fits TORIC 4.5-30x56 models

Modular Driven Technologies Premier Scope Rings offer a solid, light weight mounting system for your optics. Made from precision-machined aluminum. Stepped base-to-cap interface allows the fasteners on one side to be tightened before making final scope alignment adjustments
Four oversized #8-32 Grade 8 fasteners used for clamping the scope
MDT Premier Scope Rings are designed and manufactured to STANAG 4694 specification, also known as “NATO spec”. This means the scope ring sits tight to the top of the scope base rail, with pressure being applied to the underside of the angled rail surfaces to maintain a solid interface (as shown below). This design also allows mounting on out-of-spec rails. Provides a 1" height (centerline of the ring to where it meets the base) Fits multi slot bases and Picatinny rails. Will not work with single slot bases.
